Sharelight: A Unique and Interactive Lightning Product

An Innovative Approach to Lightning Design

Sharelight is a distributable lightning product designed for both homes and public spaces such as cafes. It consists of 11 parts, including a main body that functions as a charging and collection unit, and 10 small units that can be attached to the main body with magnets. The main body also has the ability to adjust the lumen value with a dimmer, providing customizable lighting options for users.

What sets Sharelight apart from other lightning products is the mobile units that can be detached from the main body. These small units, or "lightning sticks," can be picked up by users and used as mobile lightning sources. The main body acts as a charger for these mobile units, allowing users to easily distribute the light throughout their space.

The design of Sharelight was a result of extensive research on the emotional aspects of distributable lightning products. The designers observed that most lightning products on the market offer limited interaction and fail to evoke excitement in users. Sharelight aims to change that by giving users an active role in arranging the light and creating a more engaging and personalized lighting experience.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was creating a unique and eye-catching form for the lightning sticks. The designers wanted the sticks to be visually appealing and also serve as a reference for users, indicating their detachability and mobility. Ultimately, they were able to achieve a design that not only attracts users but also stimulates their emotions and encourages them to touch and pick up the sticks.

Sharelight is made using ABS as the main material, with the main body produced through rotational molding and the distributable units created through plastic injection molding. All electronic components are embedded within the main body, ensuring a sleek and seamless design.

With its unique features and interactive design, Sharelight has garnered recognition in the design community. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
